Rule of Thirds

Was asking Slack Jack about a particular photo that I had taken during my Punggol Cycling Adventure.

This was the photo in question.

I was asking him for comments and a critique of the photo.

I shall not discuss what he told me yet. But after listening to what he said, I decided to do a little image editing to see if it makes a difference.

Here's the results.

Let's call this exhibit A.

And this one exhibit B.

Notice any difference? Now a quick poll, which do you think is the best picture? The original, exhibit A or exhibit B?

Ok now the critique. Basically the original photo was divided into half by the horizon. And if you follow the Rule of Thirds, you're not really encouraged to do that.

I decided to follow the rule and crop the original a little.

Exhibit A features 1/3 sky and 2/3 water. Exhibit B features 1/3 water and 2/3 sky.

So the question is, did applying the Rule of Thirds really help produce a better photo?

Please leave your comments and opinions! Thanks!

exhibit B looks the best. the original photo has too much water, i don't know what is the focus of your picture. i'm guessing you wanted to take a picture of the blocks and their reflection in the water, but your camera zoom lens cannot make it. hahaha XD

rule of thirds applies. but never forget that digital manipulation of a photo in ways other than colour correction is just wrong. ;)

thanks for the feedback bro!

its a point and shoot. and the blocks were at least 500m away. so that's the max i could get.

abt digital manipulation... i think a little touch up here and there is ok.

did a little digital manipulation of a close up of my face. removed pimple. dun see anything wrong with that!! :p

Both exhibit A & B seem to make the mirror image unbalance.

I think the original picture's focus of the blocks take up almost 1/3 of the picture.
Perhaps you can trying using the original picture and zoom in like Exhibit B, then crop it.
