4 Days 4 Places

I don’t even remember the last time I blogged.
It’s probably months ago.

Anyway, here’s some photos of my trip I took over the Chinese National Day holiday.

Travelled from Dong Guan where I am up North.
Managed to visit these Shanwei, Shantou, Chaozhou and Xiamen.
Took about 4 days to visit all these places.

Between Shantou and Chaozhou, one of these has got to be my ancestral hometown.
Cos their dialect is very similar to the Teochew that we speak in Singapore.
But I’m not sure which one though.

Anyway, first stop - Shanwei.
Nothing very interesting about the place though.

Only visited a temple.

And there were some school children about.

Shanwei was pretty boring so it was off to Shantou next.
Along the way took a detour to visit this a seaside town.

Seaside town with fishing boats.

Drying salted fish along the roadside.
Amazing amount of flies buzzing around these.
Stank like anything.
I’m not eating Xian Yu Chao Fan for a long time yet.

Had dinner at Pizza Hut in Shantou.
The waitress was speaking Teochew.
Or rather their Shantou dialect that is like what we term as Teochew.
It was pretty interesting and quite a novelty!!

After dinner it was off to Chaozhou.
Strictly speaking, I think Chaozhou is the actual Teochew.
Anyone care to enlighten me on this?

Hotel room in Chaozhou.
Quite cheap compared to the rates I paid for the other nights.

Guess what this fella’s frying?

Char Kway!! That’s brunch!!

Afternoon, headed towards Fujian Province Xiamen town.
Reached the port of Xiamen around 6 in the evening.
Contemplated visiting Taiwan which was just a boat + plane ride away.
But expensive…

Nothing very exciting to see in Xiamen.
Or rather, didn’t feel like seeing much cos it was so crowded.

Just visited a wax museum where they had a figure of Hitler!

Interesting point in Xiamen was when I heard someone curse KNN!!
From Teochew to Hokkien.
Heh Heh…

Finding Xiamen boring, I headed back to Shantou.
Where I decided to be extravagant and stay in a 5 star hotel!!
Meritus Shantou!!

That’s where I managed to get online to MSN for a while.
Been like ages too since I last went online.

Anyway, next day had brunch in Shantou.

Orh Lwah!!

Fishball soup!!
So now we know where all these dishes came from, no?

Anyway after brunch it was back to Dong Guan.
Thereby ending a very exciting 4 day 4 places trip!

Sitting in a steakhouse

I'm currently sitting in a steakhouse in Chongqing.
Enjoying the 3 day Labour Day break.

Well I took 1 day leave to extend my holiday to 5 days.
So that's quite a good deal.

Anyway... Chongqing's quite fantastic.
A lot like Singapore in some ways.

Just opposite this steakhouse that I'm at is a food court!!
Exactly Singapore "Kopitiam" style. Check out the photo.

I'm sure this is a Singapore venture into China. So very very sure...
And guess what they have??

Roti Prata!! "印度飞饼" they call it...
Those 2 guys speak Chinese. LOL...
But its a pity they don't have curry to go with it.
They basically stuff the chicken with some curry spices into the prata...
Kinda like a murtabak...
Ok... its kinda hard to blog without a mouse... so I'll just post this for now.
Gonna post more when I get back to the hotel...
Its amazing that the connection here is so good.
Compared to my company's...
Ironic isn't it...
More photos later!!

HK Airport

Alrite! HK Airport finally has wireless... After travelling through this modern airport so many times, I'm finally able to go online with my laptop...

And its a good thing that they have wireless because my flight is delayed... But well what's 45 minutes when you've been away for almost 2 months...

Anyhow, I should be reaching SG at around 8.45 pm tonight... Back to hot and humid weather... Well and prata... So that's good...

Well that's all for this post... Time to check email... If there's time later I'll post up some photos...

China and Hong Kong

Gosh its been a while since I posted... well been busy and lazy... mostly lazy...

I realised that I like to use the dot dot dot a lot... (Yeah that's the one).

I use it in my emails at work... to express disatisfaction, to express displeasure, to express surprise etc etc... It's multi-purpose I tell you...

I use it in my SMS too... And I also use it on MSN and Windows Messenger... It's handy and useful... heh...

Anyway sidetrack aside, back to my original posting. I'm going to China again. Tentatively it'll be in early October (7th departure). This time it'll be a factory visit for another of my customers as well as to visit an exhibition.

Really quite excited as its gonna be my first international exhibition. Attended one in Singapore the last time, but wasn't so well versed then so didn't achieve much...

Hopefully this time round will be able to gather some good leads for business. Will be fun I'm sure...

Anyhoo... I've got another 2 plus weeks before my trip. Looking forward to it as I think its gonna be more interesting than the last few. Mainly because of the exhibition... I bet it'll be an eye-opener...

BTW, I haven't met up with a lot of people for quite a while... Lester, Herman, Pin just to name a few... OI!! Faster leh!! When we gonna meet up? Quick before October!! Hee hee...

Oh and Mr Oyster... When are you going to China or HK? Let's meet up!! IWA!!! Hee hee...

But I don't forsee that happening in the near future...

Anyway back to Ivan... Was a pity I wasn't able to send him off at the airport when he left for Dubai as I wasn't in town... But you can read more about that in Huck's post.

So have fun in Dubai bro!
Take care and dun let the sandflies bite!!

China Pics

My camera didn't fail me this time. So here are the pictures...

This is the guy I went to meet. We were having breakfast.

Me and the company driver. He's a really nice guy. He "saved" me from the train station. Its a long story...

I had to cross the Chinese border into Hong Kong to extend my visa. But by the time I left it was already very late. So subsequently, I had to catch a really late train back.

Lucky for me, I managed to get him to pick me up at the train station. If not it might have been dangerous to catch a ride back... All this on a Saturday night. He's a nice guy....

Back to breakfast...

I love jiao zhi...

Chinese prata... With corn inside...

Anyway, I went to Guangzhou on another day... here's some photos...

Bar street.

Went on a river cruise. The buildings by the river were all brightly lit.

Like this bridge shot...

Some building with a bird cartoon on it...

Ok so that's about it for now...
