Roast Chicken

Roasted my first chicken today. Well technically its not really my first considering the few I did back in sec sch. But those were over open fires, and sometimes the meat wasn't really cooked. So they don't really count.

Today's chicken was bought from NTUC. Dead, without any internal organs and cleaned. I was pretty relieved cos :
  1. I didn't have to kill it. Unlike the one which was given to us during PLTC. Alive and kicking!! (I didn't kill that one though, phew...)
  2. I didn't have to remove the internal organs. I think I would have burst the gall bladder. Making the meat pretty nasty tasting.
  3. I didn't have to remove the feathers.

I did have to do the following though:

  1. Cut off the head. It was still pretty freaky cos there was a gaping hole where its throat was slit.
  2. Cut off the feet.
  3. Remove the skin. I was lazy to go check for hair and feathers so I decided to just rip the whole skin off.
  4. Wash the whole thing.

Anyway, after all the washing came the marinating. I decided to just go with salt and pepper. And then add on a layer of honey while it was roasting.

Marinating done, I left it to soak in the flavour while I went to shower. Then a nap. Preparing chicken is pretty tiring. Heh Heh...

Waking up ard 7, I threw the chicken into the oven to roast. Took it out after a while to check if it was cooked and also to apply a layer of honey.

Half an hour later. Voila!! Honey roasted chicken!!

The verdict:

  1. Meat was too tough and dry. Probably cooked it for too long.
  2. Seasoning was a little too salty.
  3. It needs more honey.
  4. I didn't get diarrhoea.

Next up, gonna try with some herbal seasoning and let it soak up the flavour for longer. Hope this time it will turn out better.
